IBCLC means International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
These women are the BEST!
I had breastfed three children, without supplementing, for 4 years 1 month, 2 years 1 month, and 2 years 7 months before I had Adam. So, when he was born I started nursing him, thinking I was a seasoned nurser and knew what I was doing.
Then I noticed Adam was only pooping once a day and your typical breastfed baby poops after almost every feeding or at least four times a day. So, we went to see a lactation consultant at a clinic associated with our hospital.
She showed me a better way to hold Adam to make latching on and suckling easier for him and it worked. He's been making at least 4 poops a day, some bigs some smalls and more wets a day than the required (or hoped for) minimum.
I'm glad we went to see the IBCLC> She was awesome and I learned something about positioning. And most importantly, to me, Adam is coming up on a month old and is still being exclusively breastfed and thanks to the LC's help I don't see any reason we will not successfully breastfed as long as we want.
