Bits and pieces of the baby days of my fourth and last child and the only little boy in our household.
Adam was born with a Congenital Heart Defect, he had open-heart surgery at 4 months and 11 days, came home after 4 days and has been gaining weight on breast milk ever since.
To say he is a pleasure, a joy, a miracle, a wonder, my favorite boy in the whole world, ... all understatements!
I saw your blog on Pinterest. I think it is great that you are doing this blog. I am breastfeeding my 9 month old boy and it is great to see this. In the US breastfeeding tends to be hidden and covered up. I had never seen a women breastfeed before doing it myself. I had a lot of problems and didn't have any examples to follow. Obviously I made it through but I am still a little prudish about feeding in front of people. I still can't feed in front of my in-laws or my guy friends. Anywhere and in front of anyone else if fair game though. Good job!
Adam is my fourth child and I have breastfed all of them. I was lucky with my first daughter, I had her in 1997 when I was 21. I had grown up with two neighbors who breastfed for about two years each and one of my mom's cousins breastfeeding so I always knew I wanted to breastfeed my kids.
I had a lot of trouble with my first, inverted nipples and cracking and bleeding and leaking which led to more soreness, but I got through it with good lactation consultants at the hospital and a mother-in-law who breastfed all her kids.
After one successful breastfeeding experience it gave me confidence with my second and third children. Now with my fourth and last it has been harder because he wasn't eating as well as he should and we thought he had a tongue tie but it turns out he has a hole in his heart so eating is exhausting him.
We are in a hotel right now in North Carolina, he is having heart surgery Thursday and I am hoping after that he will not get so tired and will be able to catch up on his weight.
Good job breastfeeding, if you can make it to that one year point that is wonderful, and remember you can nurse him as long as you and he want to after that! Congratulations! It is a big accomplishment!
I also don't like nursing in public much, too many people feel uncomfortable that it makes me feel awkward. I do it sometimes, but I prefer to sit in the back seat of the car to nurse him, it's quieter that way for him too.
